River Centres work on a wide range of missions and activities:
- knowledge building, sharing and promotion of the river’s heritage, especially in encouraging research, training, awareness raising and dissemination in relation to the socio-cultural dimension of the river
- exchanges of experience between stakeholders: the network’s role is to strengthen and legitimise its members’ activities.
- support for local development initiatives which draw on the river’s resources.
- contribution to ensuring that social and cultural issues in river management and construction are taken into account,
through concertation measures with local populations and/or communities.
